Help explore queer Amsterdam

CIEE is looking to introduce American student to Queer Culture in Amsterdam

CIEE is an organisation for American Exchange students in Amsterdam. Every semester we host 40 to 60 students who focus on social sciences at the university of Amsterdam. As an exchange student organisation we help students to get to know more about specific parts of Amsterdam, we organise small groups who for example work in a soup kitchen, teach English at a primary school, explore the founding of New York by the Dutch or explore the Queer Culture in Amsterdam. For the Queer Amsterdam Interest Group we are looking for a fun and enthusiastic interest group leader.

The American students who join the Queer interest Group have different reasons to do so. They are often curious about the different communities in Amsterdam, but find it hard to go to events or parties on their own. Some students might be gay or identify themselves as queer, and some students are just curious about different views on sexuality. The group consists of 3 to 10 students, typical activities would include; joining the UvA Pride borrel or other UvA pride activities, visit the gay film festival, attend a lecture, visit a theatre show or have dinner together. CIEE pays for all these activities and encourages the interest group leader to bring friends along to these activities (for whom CIEE will also pay). For the rest the interest group leader does not get paid a salary. The activities take place around every two weeks from January 30th to June 4th. At the end of the semester the group will go on a weekend excursion, the hostel and the activities for this excursion will also be paid by CIEE.
